This Is How We Do It Artist Montell Jordan Album Title This Is How We Do It Date of Release 1995 (approx.) inprint AMG Rating (Best-of-Artist) Genre Rap Styles Urban, Hip-Hop AMG EXPERT REVIEW: Montell Jordan was blessed with a strong set of producers for his debut album, This Is How We Do It. Working with material that is essentially sub-par, the production team turns in a seamless performances, creating hooks and melodies from the deep bass and beats. Jordan's skills as a rapper are fine -- he does nothing particularly noteworthy, yet he certainly does not ruin the tracks. It was just the sort of competent R&B that hits the chart, and it did hit the charts, becoming a number one R&B album. -- Stephen Thomas Erlewine Richard Harris - Vocals (bckgr) Colin England - Vocals (bckgr) Andrew Gouche - Bass Charles Green - Horn Mark Harris - Bass Doc Powell - Guitar Oji Pierce - Arranger, Producer Doug Rasheed - Producer Nolan Andrew Smith - Trumpet Derrick Walker - Percussion Will Wheaton - Vocals (bckgr) Montell Jordan - Arranger, Vocals (bckgr), Producer J.A. There is a new figure eclipsing the world of R&B, and it isn't just this singer's 6-foot-8-inch frame. Montell Jordan has taken silky smooth, gospel-rooted sounds and flavored them with a street-smart hip-hop edge, creating a swinging R&B album. The title track, his debut single, topped the R&B charts before the album even hit the streets. Joining that upbeat track in offering infectious grooves are the streetwise "Introducing Shaunta," the goodtime pick-up cues of "Somethin' 4 Da Honeyz" and the radio-friendly "Gotta' Get My Roll On." Jordan's roots are obvious. He has heard his share of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Teddy Pendergrass, whose "Close The Door" he covers; but he can also turn from |
